New York

The North American market presents another key pillar of the Heraeus Group strategy. In order to satisfy the precious metals needs of subsidiaries there, Heraeus has been represented by its own trading company in the USA since 1990, Heraeus Precious Metals Management LLC (HPM).
The office is located in Manhattan in New York, and is responsible for trading activities and precious metal logistics in the North American, Central American and South American markets.
The New York trading office serves customers from many sectors. These include mining companies, but also companies in the electronics, jewelry and telecommunications industries, chemicals and petrochemicals, and international auto manufacturers. The broad spectrum of customers reflects the general significance of North and South America for precious metals. Some of the largest producers of gold and silver are located in the New World; for example, gold production here now exceeds that of South Africa. In addition, the most significant hedge and investment funds in the world are located here, which cause large price fluctuations on a continuing basis as a result of their activities.
A five-person business and sales team provides customer service at HPM, using the latest information, trade and risk management systems. The New York business specializes in direct participation in the trading on the commodity futures exchanges located in the USA. Heraeus operates with the goal of avoiding price risks on the New York COMEX (for gold and silver), the NYMEX (for platinum and palladium), and the commodity futures market in Chicago (CBOT), which is growing in importance.
